Unsigned State MVP
Desiree Contreras
|
After winning the 1A Tapps state championship by hitting 4 straight free throws with the game on the line, what's in store for this tiny scoring machine? Well like many small guards before her "Dee" has been left on the shelf late into her senior year. But that will change because somebody is going to look passed the lack of size (5'3) and give this scoring machine an opportunity to bring her game to the collegian level.
As a senior Contreras averaged 21 points and 7 steals a game on her way to being named the STATE MVP. In her junior year she averaged over 25 points a game scoring 48 and 47 points in games against bigger schools.
Coach Luis Bueno knows Desiree has what it takes to play college basketball saying, "She is extremely knowledgeable about the game and is blessed with an abundance of ability and heart. She is a team worker and will do whatever it takes to make herself and her teammates better. She has proven her ability at and beyond the level of competition our school has experienced time and time again. Desiree, is prepared to take the next step in her basketball and academic career. She has worked hard and is neither imperious nor overbearing. She will encourage others with her words and actions and will always be a keen listener fully prepared to abide instruction."
