Flower Mound Marcus High School Release

Cara Sczepanski Commits to University of Dallas.

Cara Sczepanski, Flower Mound Marcus, has committed to attend the University of Dallas in September of 2007. A top fifty, Class of 2007, Sczepanski is the “all time leading” scorer at Flower Mound Marcus. Recently, she was awarded the District 6-5A Most Valuable Player while leading Flower Mound Marcus to the undefeated, 6-5A championship. Cara averaged 20.7 points per game and 9 rebounds per game her senior year at Marcus High School. Cara is one of three girls selected to both Texas Girls Coaches Association’s All State Team and Academic All State Team. Cara was also selected to the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Class 5A All-Region I Team for 2007 and Academic All-State Academic 2007.

Those present as Cara committed to the University of Dallas included her parents, Bill and Carolyn Sczepanski, her brother Cain, Marcus Coach Kit Kyle and Deon Hunter, Cara’s basketball trainer/mentor.

When hearing of Cara’s decision, FM Marcus Coach Kit Kyle remarked "I think Cara will be a fantastic addition to an esteemed institution. It is refreshing to see a young person with focus and passion for achieving goals in her life. I wish her continued success at the University of Dallas.”

The University of Dallas is a NCCA Division III liberal arts university, located in Irving, Texas. Cara’s decision was based upon the national, educational reputation of the University of Dallas and the opportunity to immediately play for the University of Dallas Crusaders. The NCAA Division III is the largest NCAA division. There are more than 400 women’s basketball programs competing in Division III.

Coach Genevieve Schmitt at the University of Dallas commented on Cara’s decision by saying: "This is an exciting time for UD's women's basketball. Cara is a remarkable student and will get so much out of UD's top-notch faculty and curriculum. Moreover, I can't emphasize enough the impact she will have on the court and on the program at UD. She comes from a first-rate program and a winning tradition established by Coach Kyle. Although Cara has been a scoring machine, her points never came at the
team’s expense. Like the great player she is, she makes everyone around her better. It's been fun to watch her from the stands; I can't wait to coach her from the bench for the next four years!".
